Testing: In Minnesota, homeschoolers are required to test their children annually. This testing can be done at any time of year, and only applies to children between the ages of 7 and 16. Within that requirement, homeschoolers have several choices. There are the pencil and oval tests that we all remember taking when we were in school. These are timed tests and take several hours to complete. But as homeschoolers we have other options. The Peabody Individual Achievement Test (PIAT) is shorter in duration, untimed and less stressful. It also doesn't assume a grade related skill level, so children of all abilities are tested within their comfortable skill range. The test also allows children to rise to their level of natural ability, giving more meaningful results for parents. Go to the testing page to learn more.
